Oh Barcelona! Barcelona! It’s been such a dream of ours to be here together. We talked about it all summer, how did we not visit there before. And finally here we are.
And as you might know by now, we love finding hotels that are good value for money. It has become our expertise of sorts. One of our tricks for finding such places is to look for 4-star hotels with high ratings in the best locations.
The H10 Hotel Barcelona Port Vell is exactly like that!
Our visit to Barcelona was at the end of October so the city was still pretty busy, but not as much as in the summer. And the weather was still nice enough to enjoy the lovely city, while not being too hot.
We stayed at the wonderful H10 Port Vell that is located right in the harbor of Barcelona. The hotel is pretty new, beautifully designed with comfortable rooms and the breakfast was a highlight for us. The hotel provided us with a quiet and cozy base to explore the city, but with a very central location.
The Location
The hotel is set in a historical building right in front of the Palau De Mar and the beautiful chic Barcelona boardwalk. If you are coming by taxi or with a car from the airport, the location is very convenient – just 17 minutes drive and there is a public parking right outside the hotel.
The location is very convenient and perfect for sightseeing. The popular Gothic Quarter, Picasso Museum and the famous La Barceloneta beach are all within a few minutes walk. The hotel is also 10 minutes walk from the Cuitadella Park that has the Zoo, Parliament de Catalunya, and the Cascada Monumental.
Still, despite its central location the hotel is pretty quiet and the balconies offer open views and beautiful sunrises that will help you start the day the right way.

Is the rooftop terrace! That includes a stunning view from the pool and a laid back cafe lounge.
We loved hanging out there mostly in the morning with our laptops doing some work while still feeling like we were out in the port between the crowds. And it was really fun drinking some sangria here in the evenings to relax after thousands of steps exploring Barcelona.
Try to dip in the pool as it’s so refreshing and a great way to start your day, right before you eat the delicious breakfast that is waiting for you downstairs.
The Lobby
In the lobby of the hotel you will find great comfort and coffee in an elegantly designed surrounding area to enjoy your newspaper or have a meeting. The staff is welcoming and would assist you with anything you need with a local touch.
Snacks and beer as well as other drinks are available to guests for an additional charge.
The Rooms
Wherever we stay around the world, we don’t need much to be comfortable. So it’s usually the small details that make our stay memorable. For us it was the Nesspreso machine that we love so much and the little cookies that came next to it, the comfortable mattress that made our jet lag go away fast, and of course the shower that was a real spoil after long days of exploring.
Our room had a cozy balcony with a gorgeous view of the Palau and the port. And the comfortable desk was much appreciated, as we are always working when we travel.
We also loved our balcony facing the port. It was the perfect spot to enjoy our coffee in the morning and to sit and watch the colorful sky in the evenings.
Breakfast & Food
Nothing like a good healthy breakfast to start your day before you head out to explore Barcelona on foot! The breakfast at H10 Port Vell offers a rich buffet of cold cuts, fruits and cereals, plus an a la carte menu for eggs, croissants and other warm breakfast options. For us, this is the best thing about summers in Europe.
Keep in mind that the restaurant at the hotel does not serve lunch and dinner, but there is full room service available through an off-site caterer. You can also grab snacks, drinks and coffee at the lobby bar late into the evening.
Other Amenities
The hotel offers a 24 hour front desk, laundry and concierge service, as well as daily newspapers in the lobby. There is also a small gym if you want to get a quick work out in, although the equipment was a little limited.
